Blackpool Council

Blackpool Council is the local authority of the Borough of Blackpool, in the ceremonial county of Lancashire, England.

My Role:

I provided Marketing and Communications support to the Business Support team within the Tourism & Regeneration department. This included website updates, direct mail, e-communications, writing and distributing press releases and the supervision of one staff member.

During this time, I managed the launch and promotion of a brand-new commercial WiFi scheme entitled ‘Wireless Blackpool’ including planning, budgeting, marketing and regular reporting to a funding body.

I also supported the events team with departmental events including the 2008 Tourism Awards and 2009 Business Master Class Conference and was seconded over to the Council’s Events team Visit Blackpool to support with resort events including Veterans Week and the 2008 Illuminations Switch On.

Results:

Drove over 1k registrations to the BlackpoolUnlimited.com website and obtained an incremental +4k Unique Users on an annual basis, achieving the required targets for the Local Economic Growth Initiative (LEGI) funding.

Raised local and national awareness of Blackpool’s WiFi facility through online marketing, events and PR, subsequently increasing the number of conferences held within Blackpool by 20% in a 12-month period.

“On joining my team at Blackpool Council, Louise very quickly proved herself as a dedicated marketing professional, keen to demonstrate her ability and potential. She was a much-valued member of the team and supported some great initiatives.

I subsequently worked with Louise on joint marketing campaigns when she joined the Merlin team in Blackpool.”
